Richard Cloutier: Predicting The Biggest Oilers Trade Since Gretzky - Maxbone
Why would the Preadtors pay him $25 million to keep him for just one season? If they're willing to do that, I think they can handle the subsequent salaries/bonuses.
Edit: They turned down 4 1sts. Outside of Edmonton, Hemsky has no value, especially at his hit. Honestly, you're looking at something like RNH, a top-4 defenseman, and 2 1sts to start talking. No way Edmonton would do it either, so no. Shea Weber isn't going anywhere for the next 7 seasons or so. |

Way to look way too far ahead. Let's focus on this year and players who are actually on our team, not some dream land trade that would never happen. |

You can't trade someone with a RFA offer sheet for a year after the signing. The Preds had to keep him or lose him to Philly. |

Yep.
Any Weber trade starts with one of EDM's big four kids coming to Nashville. I doubt the trade proposal in the blog is anywhere near close. |

1) Doesn't Weber have a no-trade clause for that contract? I am almost positive there was one.
2) You are high. |

And going into this, they KNEW they'd have to pay him $25 million for one season. If they were prepared to do that, what makes you think they can't afford less than half of that for the remaining ones? |

This would never get done without one of Edmonton's elite forwards.... why would they want draft picks when you can have one of their #1 picks? |

What he's saying is if the Preds were going to trade him, they would have let him go and take the comensation. You dont give him 25 million for one half season of play then get rid of him.
Beleive it or not. Shea is happy there.
Your rumour should be killed asap. Its utterly ridiculous. |

There is no NTC/NMC. But even if there was, do you think Weber wants to stay in Nashville? That team is going nowhere fast. |

Richard Cloutier: Predicting The Biggest Oilers Trade Since Gretzky - Maxbone
"Hemsky, Klefbom and two firsts..."
Sorry, but you are dreaming, Richard. We are talking about probably the best defenseman in the league. The Oilers will HAVE to give up Yaks, Nuge, or Hall for the Preds to even consider this. I think you are REALLY overvaluing Klefbom and the picks.
And why would the Preds want to make this deal? How does this deal SIGNIFICANTLY help them in the future? If the Oilers are as great as you think they will be, those first round picks will be in the mid to late 20s, so it is unlikely they would be a superstar of the caliber of Weber. Hemsky is over the hill and WAY overvalued by you and a number of Oiler fans. (I'd bet the Preds wouldn't even want him with his injury histroy.) That leaves us with Klefbom. Good? Yes. Great and in the same class as Weber? Hell no.
No friggin way this happens. I like your blogs, but at least try to be somewhat realistic about the deals you come up with. |

Would Hemsky, Klefbom and two Oilers 1st round picks be worth more than 5 - 1sts from Philly...a team we know is going to be drafting later than 15 all five seasons? I think so. |

Also your suggestion that the Oil can afford him but the Preds cant is ridiculous.
One Brett Wilson is now a part owner of the Preds and has extremely deep pockets.
Just end this one already Clouts! |

If the Oilers have their 4 top guys and Weber, they're probably not goign to be top-15 picks either. And again, really, no one wants Hemsky at his price tag and with his injury history. |

If you think Klefbom, Hemsky & 2x1st rounders gets it done, Leafs could offer Gardiner/Rielly, Kadri & 2x1sts and beat that offer...
Like everyone has said...if Ebs, Hall, Nuge or Yaks isn't involved, neither is Weber.
One of those 4 plus Klef, Hemsky and a 1st and you are in the ballpark... |

Under your scenario the Oilers would also be giving them one aging injury prone forward, one injured D prospect (may or may not fully recover) and 2 first rounders that would also suck because Edmonton would be near the top of the league as well
Makes ZERO sense. |
